Tottenham Secure First League Victory with 3 1 Win Over Coventry

Tottenham Hotspur finally celebrated their maiden Premier League triumph of the campaign after defeating Coventry City 3 1 at home, lifting themselves away from the foot of the standings.

Following a four day training retreat in Marbella, Spain, Tottenham displayed renewed determination and made an excellent start. James Maddison marked his return to the starting lineup with a brilliant finish in the 14th minute, guiding Mohammed Kudus’ delivery into the upper corner.

The England midfielder was making his first league start since April 27, 2025, having endured a lengthy recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Dominic Solanke appeared to extend Tottenham’s advantage, but his effort was disallowed after Andy Robertson was judged offside during the attacking move.

Coventry responded strongly after the interval, restoring parity in the 50th minute. Jack Rudoni capitalised on a defensive mistake by Jan Paul van Hecke, recovering possession following a blocked attempt before finding the net.

However, Tottenham regained control eight minutes later through Omar Marmoush. The Egyptian forward registered his first goal for Spurs since arriving from Manchester City on loan in August, with a permanent transfer valued at £60 million scheduled for next summer.

Coventry protested the decision, believing Marmoush had struck Milan van Ewijk with his elbow before scoring, but the referee allowed the goal.

Ben Davies completed the victory during the fifth minute of added time, producing a precise finish from outside the penalty area.

Tottenham also welcomed Dejan Kulusevski back following his lengthy absence through injury.

The result marked just their sixth home league victory in 37 matches, moving Spurs from 20th to 16th position, ahead of Coventry on goal difference.
