Kazakhstan Fight Back to Hold Faroe Islands in Nations League Thriller

Kazakhstan produced a determined second half recovery to secure a 2–2 draw against the Faroe Islands in their UEFA Nations League Group C3 meeting at Astana Arena.

The visitors made an impressive start and took the lead after 22 minutes through Petur Knudsen. Kazakhstan attempted to respond, but the Faroe Islands remained organised and protected their advantage going into the interval.

Kazakhstan made changes at the start of the second period as they searched for a way back into the contest. However, the Faroe Islands struck again in the 63rd minute. Géza Dávid Turi found the net to put his side 2–0 ahead and leave the hosts facing a difficult challenge.

The complexion of the match soon changed. Kazakhstan finally broke through five minutes later when Sergey Malyy scored in the 68th minute, reducing the deficit and giving the home crowd fresh hope.

Momentum then shifted towards Kazakhstan as they increased the pressure. Their persistence was rewarded in the 76th minute when Nuraly Alip converted following an assist from Maksim Samorodov, bringing the score level at 2–2.

Both teams continued searching for a decisive goal during the closing stages. Kazakhstan had opportunities to complete the comeback, while the Faroe Islands also threatened from set pieces. A late VAR review resulted in no penalty being awarded, and neither side managed to find a winner before the final whistle.

The result means the Faroe Islands remain unbeaten through their opening four Nations League fixtures, having drawn all three of their previous Group C3 matches. For Kazakhstan, the comeback prevented another defeat after losses against Slovakia and Moldova earlier in the campaign.

Despite surrendering a two goal advantage, the Faroe Islands once again demonstrated their ability to compete in a closely contested group, while Kazakhstan showed resilience to rescue an important point at home.
