Mexican Formula One driver Sergio Perez has secured his future with Cadillac after agreeing to a new contract that will keep him racing for the American outfit through the 2029 season. The announcement comes ahead of a significant career milestone as the experienced competitor prepares for his 300th Grand Prix appearance in Mexico City this weekend.
At 36, Perez remains one of the most experienced figures in Formula One. He became part of Cadillac’s ambitious racing project in August 2025, joining Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas as the manufacturer prepared to enter the championship in 2026.
Since beginning his Formula One career in 2011, Perez has established an impressive record featuring six race victories. His first triumph arrived with Racing Point in 2020, while five additional successes followed during his time representing Red Bull between 2021 and 2024.
His strongest championship campaigns came in 2022 and 2023, finishing third and second respectively in the overall driver rankings. However, his Red Bull career ended following the 2024 campaign despite having two seasons remaining on his previous agreement.
Cadillac’s introduction to Formula One has presented considerable challenges. The newcomer has struggled to compete against established manufacturers, with both drivers yet to register championship points.
Perez currently occupies the bottom position in the 2026 standings. His highest finishes have been 14th place, achieved in Barcelona, Silverstone and Azerbaijan.
Nevertheless, the Mexican racer remains optimistic about Cadillac’s development. He believes building a competitive operation requires dedication, patience and consistent improvement.
His decision to extend his association reflects confidence in the organisation’s ambitions and determination to contribute to its progress.
With three more years ahead, Perez hopes his experience will help Cadillac strengthen its performance and eventually challenge more established competitors on the Formula One grid.
