Madushanka’s Five Wicket Haul Powers Sri Lanka Into Tri Series Final

Sri Lanka delivered an outstanding performance against Pakistan in Lahore, securing an eight wicket victory to confirm their place in the ODI tri series final. Dilshan Madushanka produced a sensational bowling display, claiming career best figures of 5 for 34 as the visitors restricted Pakistan to just 110 runs.

The victory also ended Sri Lanka’s five match losing streak against Pakistan and eliminated England from contention for the final.

Pakistan’s batting lineup struggled throughout the innings as Sri Lanka maintained constant pressure. Babar Azam was the leading scorer with 29 runs from 33 deliveries, while only three other Pakistani batters reached double figures.

Madushanka led the attack with exceptional control and bounce, recording his second five wicket haul in ODI cricket. His previous achievement came against India during the 2023 World Cup. Sahan Arachchige supported the effort with two wickets, while Asitha Fernando, Eshan Malinga and Dunith Wellalage claimed one each.

Pakistan’s total of 110 became their second lowest ODI score at home and third lowest against Sri Lanka.

Chasing a modest target, Sri Lanka completed the victory in just 18.1 overs, losing only two wickets. Kamindu Mendis anchored the innings with an unbeaten 62 from 60 balls, overcoming two fortunate moments during his knock.

Pavan Rathnayake contributed an unbeaten 23 from 26 deliveries and struck the winning runs. Although Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis departed, Pakistan never seriously threatened Sri Lanka’s pursuit.

The entire contest lasted only 43.4 overs, highlighting Sri Lanka’s superiority with both bat and ball.

This comprehensive result provides Sri Lanka with valuable confidence ahead of another meeting with Pakistan in the tournament final. With Madushanka returning to impressive form and the batting unit showing composure, Sri Lanka will aim to maintain their momentum and secure the championship title.
